Six-pack abs? Not me.

“I have a flat tummy, but I’m not rock hard. If I’m going to be in a bikini, I’ll train more and skip desserts for a couple of weeks. But usually, I work out to feel good. Exercising gives me endorphins and energy. I do it four days a week. I Spin with Candice Accola and Claire Holt from the show. Running is my solo time; working my muscles outside in fresh air is therapeutic. Starving to be skinny isn’t my thing. When I don’t eat, it affects my mood! On-set, I fuel up with small meals and I’m always grabbing high-protein snacks, like almonds. Chai lattes with espresso also keep me going.

I want to keep growing, so I make vision boards that say things like, ‘Learn. Excel. Succeed.’

“Using my imagination, spelling out what I want to achieve and creating a reminder of those things helps me move forward. Remembering my roots matters to me. We were on a tight budget growing up, and my parents gave so much to get me where I am. Now, at Christmas, I rent a house in the Rockies and take my family snowboarding.”

Nina is ready for fall on the October cover of Seventeen Magazine, as she looks forward to the Sept. 14 release of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. In the film, Nina plays Candace, a teenager in an abusive relationship. She opens up to Seventeen about her new role, dating her Vampire Diaries co-star, and why nothing beats a weekend with the girls.

“It’s a really heavy topic, and I hope my character gives girls some perspective. I think more than anything, girls allow abuse to happen because they’re embarrassed it happened and that they allowed it to happen. They know it’s not right. There’s no excuse for it. That’s why it’s so important to show girls that they can admit that it’s not their fault.â€�

The Vampire Diaries Season 4 premiere is still months away, but the show’s brand new vamp heroine — Nina Dobrev — has been spotted rocking a Prada Fall/Winter 2012 Women’s Print Suit and an enviable Chanel couture dress in Fashion magazine‘s September 2012 issue, in which she discusses her personal style, teases upcoming episodes of TVD, and puts those wild rumors of being engaged to co-star and real-life beau Ian Somerhalder to rest.

Here are some highlights from her interview in the popular Canadian magazine:

On all those rampant marriage rumors: “Eventually I am going to marry and have a family but not any time soon.� Then, referring to Miley Cyrus’ spur of the moment engagement to Hunger Games hunk Liam Hemsworth, she jokes, “I’m not going to pull a Miley.�
On Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries: “The main objective of recent years in DTV has always been a ‘save Elena, make sure that Elena will not die’ and now Elena died, so the whole dynamic of the show changed completely.�
On Her Must-Have Article of Clothing: “A good bra. Every girl has to have a great bra. Dresses, I love maxi dresses, that’s my favorite thing. Every girl’s gotta have a Chanel. I’ve recently learned and I just got one.�
On Her Red Carpet Preparation: “I needed a collaborator, not a dictator. Someone who’d hopefully understand me. When you’re getting ready for a red carpet, you have to have a great team and you have to make sure that everyone is looking out for every little detail. [...] If they’re not. . . Joan Rivers will be.�
On Her Personal Sense of Fashion: “My personal style is kind of like a chameleon. It changes all the time. I’m definitely a risk taker, or at least I try to be.�
