We added the first promotional still from the 3×01 The Birthday episode of the Third Season of The Vampire Diaries! Nina looks so beautiful! We can’t wait! We’re so excited for Season 3! Hopefully more photos will be released along with the Season 3 Promoshoot!
Via Zap2It: Here it is, “Vampire Diaries” fans — the first official picture from the Season 3 premiere, “The Birthday.” Elena (Nina Dobrev) is turning 18, and despite the doom and gloom of the last year, Caroline insists on throwing her a small party. Of course, knowing Caroline, it’s no surprise that the bash at the Salvatore mansion is a little bigger than Elena expected, complete with at least one uninvited guest. This first photo shows Alaric (Matt Davis), Elena, and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) taking a quiet moment outside the house to talk, complete with the bottle of bourbon that’s never far from Alaric’s reach.
We’ll have to wait until Sept 15 to find out just what these three have to discuss, but if we had to guess, we’d say Stefan, Stefan, and more Stefan. Elena’s not the type to kick back and celebrate while her boyfriend is off on a ripper rampage.

Vampire Diaries fans, mark your calendars for September 15. That’s The CW drama’s third-season premiere — and a special day for Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). “Our first episode is Elena’s 18th birthday,” spills exec producer Julie Plec. What’s in store for the birthday girl?
There will be a small time jump [from where last season ended] as we celebrate Elena’s birthday,” says Plec. “But as is the pattern in Mystic Falls, the event never reaches its climax.” Elena will now be a senior in high school, but don’t bank on a season-ending graduation.
Now that she’s 18, “Elena and Jeremy technically don’t need a parent living in their house [following Aunt Jenna's death],” says Plec. “She will be taking care of herself.”
On the romantic front, might the show now capitalize on the real-life romance of Nina and Ian Somerhalder (Damon) and have their characters hook up? While Plec stresses she would never exploit her actors’ personal lives, she hints that “over the course of the season, Elena will be struggling with a deep, deep attraction toward Damon. That’s going to be a big problem for her.” As will Rebecca, a yet-to-be-cast vampire from Stefan’s “darkest ripper days who loves that Stefan’s back to his bad behavior.” She’s not the only one.

The Vampire Diaries season 2 finale is tonight! In light of that, in this exclusive interview, Nina talks about such finale, her diet, and how she chooses her projects!
Currently, what is your favorite book?
I’m reading a couple of things right now. There’s a book called Wherever You Go, There You Are, and I also re-read The Perks of Being a Wallflower for my role in the movie.
Had you met your Wallflower co-star Emma Watson before?
No, I’ve actually never met her. I know Logan [Lerman], he’s a friend of mine. I’m very excited to work with everyone.
How do you choose your projects? What goes through your mind when scripts come across your desk?
Its one of those things where…I try to stay away from anything I’ve played before, so I’d prefer not to do anything vampire related for supernatural. [laughs] At the same time, we’re reading scripts looking for good material surrounded by good casts, directors. I really want to be associated with great projects and character driven projects and films. I have to feed my soul, and keep feeling like an artist and keep being challenged. That’s one of the things now, it’s a very interesting experience after two years on the show, even with the two characters, and I’m getting into a routine. I don’t want to get comfortable or into a pattern, I want to continue to be challenged. I really love what I do, so I have to give it my all.

Ew released a stunning and absolutely breathtaking picture from the Second Season of The Vampire Diaires Promotional Shoot. Nina looks so beautiful, check it out in the Gallery!

The sacrifice ritual is finally upon us, and no one is pretending that tonight’s game-changing episode of The Vampire Diaries (The CW, 8 p.m. ET) won’t have a body count. It was an emotional hour for the cast to shoot. “The big sacrifice is very tragic. A lot of people die, and it’s all people that we love and care about, and so when you’re on set filming it and you’re looking at these people in their eyes and you know that they’re dying, it’s like losing a family member for real,” Dobrev tells EW. As always, the cast had to find the light at the end of the tunnel. “The show is so dark, and dangerous, and scary, and there’s so much blood and death, we have to make ourselves laugh, we have to make sure that we have fun. During the sacrifice episode, we shot mostly nights, about an hour or hour and a half outside [Atlanta], so we would drive an hour and a half twice a day after working 16 hours a day for a week. We worked on a Saturday night as well. We were joking around saying, ‘If we have to work on Saturday night, we should be able to drink on Saturday night at work. We didn’t obviously,” she says, “but then on Sunday morning, when we wrapped at like 9 a.m., we all went out for brunch, which was basically like our dinner.” So mimosas all around? “We tried, but in Georgia there’s a law that you can’t drink before 12:30 on Sunday,” she says.
Speaking of tragedies, we asked Dobrev to tease tonight’s episode. Here’s what she told us:
• John (David Anders) has been MIA because independent Elena’s been avoiding him despite their truce, and frankly, she’s had so much on her mind, she hasn’t even thought about keeping him in the loop. “We saw a lot of him this episode, and you’re gonna see him be as selfless as we’ve ever seen him,” she says. (RIP, John?)
• Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning), who’s in transition and will become a vampire if she drinks human blood, will go through hell either way. So will Elena. “Jenna will have to make the choice, and Elena will have to sit there and watch her go through this terrible thing. When you think about it, Jenna found out that vampires existed and then become one in, like, a day. And now she’s fighting all these different emotions because when you’re a vampire, all your senses are heightened — the feeling for love, and regret, and sadness, and pain,” Dobrev says. “The one thing Elena has been fighting so hard to achieve all season is to protect her friends and her family, and now she’s in this circumstance where she’s very vulnerable and helpless and she has to sit there like a spectator and watch those around her die knowing that she’s basically next.”

“Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec wasn’t kidding when she said the “loss of life [will] be extreme over the last several episodes.” Already (SPOILER ALERT) we’ve seen Aunt Jenna meet her demise and return as an undead. But will she say goodbye forever after Klaus is done with her? We can’t say for sure, but when we spoke to star Nina Dobrev recently about tonight’s “The Sun Also Rises,” her preview didn’t give us high hopes for a happy ending.
“It’s the one pretty tear-jerking episode,” she revealed to Hollywood Crush. “It’s a very intense, very sad episode. So definitely tune in to watch that one because it’s pretty epic.”
We’ll definitely being sharing our love seat with a box of Kleenex tonight as we (hopefully) find out the fate of some of our favorite Mystic Falls residents. But we don’t want to leave you on such a downer note going into tonight’s episode, so let’s quickly chat about the positive aspects of “The Sun Also Rises.”
“Paul Sommers is directing it,” Nina said. “And Paul Sommers is our director of photography, so he’s done every episode since the beginning, except the pilot. So it’s his directorial debut. And it’s really cool and we’re really excited for him.”
We’re excited too, but just don’t bum us out too much, Paul. Okay?

Nina Dobrev has spoken of a terrifying Vampire Diaries shoot at one of America’s most haunted houses. The 22-year-old, who plays both Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce in the CW series, recalled how filming at Georgia’s Gaither Plantation was thrown into chaos after a musical instrument inexplicably sprang into life.
“The ADs (assistant directors) started screaming, ‘Stop! Whoever that is, stop the music. We’re rolling. Cameras are on’.
Dobrev further claimed to have experienced another supernatural occurrence at the site, when lights in one room began “spontaneously coming on and off”. Admitting that the moment had shaken her skepticism, Dobrev added:
“All of a sudden it was kind of happening, and it was kind of weird.”

The CW Network has given early pickups to five of its established series for next season, including network’s top-rated drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
The CW’s bloodily addictive hit THE VAMPIRE DIARIES was also given an early renewal, and in its sophomore season, remains the network’s most-watched show (4.0 million viewers) and the network’s number-one show among its target audience of women 18-34 (2.9/9).
Not that we didn’t expected this but it’s so awesome! We’re really excited for the 3rd Season! Congrats to Nina and the rest of the cast & crew!

Do you think Elena will live through ‘the sacrifice?’ Nina gives us the straight talk on her character’s fate. While we Vampire Diaries fans are busy worrying about whether Elena (Nina Dobrev) will choose to be with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) or Stefan (Paul Wesley), we’re all forgetting one very important thing: Elena may not live long enough to make that choice!
“[Damon and Elena] definitely have chemistry,” Nina admitted to HollywoodLife.com on April 25 at the TriBeca Film Festival premiere of Last Night, hosted by Cinema Society. “But right now, she’s just trying to survive the day.”
And it sounds like Nina may actually get to watch the May 12 season finale, as she told us she recently (finally) bought a TV!
“I just got a TV like three weeks ago,” she said. “Believe it or not, I got a 3-D TV. I decided I had to go big or go home — from nothing to the biggest thing there is.”
We’re glad to hear Nina will finally get to watch the show from the comfort of her own home. Now let’s hope it’s not just in time to watch Elena meet her end!
